Skúli Helgason - Cinematographer, Video Editor, Director, Audio Engineer.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I was made and born in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík in 1982 but moved to the airport town Keflavík at the age of four. I grew up listening to the Rolling Stones, old American blues and jazz vinyl records that my father owned, but my sister got me into heavy metal and hip hop and brightened my horizon greatly.

Your Sister?
Yeah when I was 7 she was the coolest person I knew and she still is. I remember when me and my friends would sneak into her room when she was not home and blast her new Akai stereo and jump on her bed. We thought we where rockstars -fun times I tell you.

So how did your bed jumping career turn out?
Well after awhile we realized jumping on beds wasn´t going to get us far and with no instruments at hand we discovered a new passion for filmmaking and we did numerous really awesome/bad home movies.

So filmmaking is your thing?
Yeah but, music has always been a big part of my life so I didn´t forget that dream. I started singing in few garage bands and then picked up the guitar later when me and my friends formed Killer Bunny. When we started recording our own stuff I developed a die hard interest in audio recording.

What kind of movies do you like the most?
I've always been really interested in documentaries and movies based on true stories. I've always been fascinated by stuff that actually happened. But I also watch all kinds of movies and they don't have to be based on true events but that doesn't hurt either. I also love short musicals... also known as music videos.

Where do you draw your inspirations?
For music videos I have to say Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham. I love how Gondry keeps everything happening in the video in sync with the music. For movies I would say Stanley Kubrick because he thinks of every detail and makes sure everything is done correctly.

So witch is more fun, Audio or Film?
Both, They are so different but still a really important part of each other and with my studies at Full Sail University I´ve developed skills in both fields.

Full Sail University?
It´s where I got my Associate of Science in film and audio and met my partner in crime Gunnar Valdimarsson. Since then we have been working on professional Audio and music video production for our newly formed company Niceland Productions.
